Seahawks Draft Show: Reaction to L.J. Collier of TCU and Round 1 of the 2019 NFL Draft

NCAA Football: Senior Bowl Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

When the week began, the Seattle Seahawks only had four picks going into the 2019 NFL Draft. With the trade of Frank Clark to Kansas City and two trades down from the 21st pick overall and the 30th pick in the first round, Seattle now has a total of nine picks and their first round selection was TCU defensive end L.J. Collier.

Collier is a player who had been previously discussed on the show, particularly because the Seahawks seemed to show so much interest in the pass rusher for the Horned Frogs. They had scouts at the Senior Bowl, they met with Collier at the combine, Seattle was on hand for the TCU Pro Day and the team invited him to the VMAC for a Top 30 visit.

On the show, Rob Staton and Brandan Schulze go over the moves Seattle made in the first round and talk about the type of player they are getting with Collier.

Rob says, “Be happy about this pick! L.J. Collier: great prospect, well worth a late first round pick, great choice by the Seahawks.”

He compares Collier’s pressure percentage stats in 2018 to a couple picks who went ahead of him like Brian Burns and Montez Sweat, but says Collier comes without some of the main concerns that allowed those two players two drop out of the top 10.

Brian Baldinger recently broke down some of Collier’s tape on Twitter. “You ain’t doing your homework on Collier, you’re lazy. You’re looking at stupid, underwear stats in Indianapolis. This guy’s a football player.

Where do the Seahawks go next? The guys look at some of the options at the top of the second round and look ahead to the fourth round at some of the positions they could now consider as the team holds four picks in the fourth round and two more picks in the fifth round.
