Friday the Seattle Seahawks signed free agent defensive end Ziggy Ansah to address the lack of depth at the defensive end position, and as the new week begins reports have emerged that have the Seahawks adding depth at the quarterback position.

However, a later update from Ian Rapoport has the Seahawks simply hosting Smith on a visit later this week rather than signing him at this time.

For Seahawks fans who remember the preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers last August, Geno Smith shredded the Hawks rebuilt secondary going 6-8 for 85 yards and a touchdown for a 148.4 quarterback rating in limited action. The former second round pick spent the 2018 season as the backup to Philip Rivers, after having spent the first five years of his career in New York. His first four seasons were with the New York Jets, before spending 2017 with the New York Giants, where he is the only quarterback not named Eli Manning to start a game since midway through the 2004 season.

If signed, Smith would likely compete with former first round pick Paxton Lynch for the backup quarterback position behind Russell Wilson.
