A Plea to Seahawks "Journalists"

Maybe I am unique among Seahawks fans. Maybe I am the only one who feels this way…and then again maybe I am not. Are any of you tired of reading an article where someone has pored over some obscure stats and come to the conclusion that the Seahawks are not as good as we thought…or better than we thought? One of the principles that seems to be lost on analytics gurus is that correlation does not necessarily imply causation. If all the stats say you were one of the worst teams around – yet you made it to the playoffs – maybe there is something about what you did that was right. You know…sometimes the teams that we don’t expect to win do so anyway. A wise man once said "I guess that’s why they play the game.".

I get it. You are bored with no football going on. You want to hear about your team. Fan’s are so desperate for any Seahawks report that they will read any article that someone posts about them; even if it is based on nothing and reports nothing. Have you ever clicked on an article that said something like "Pete Caroll Updates {fill in player’s name} Situation" to find out that the update was that Pete said that he wouldn’t say anything?

Stop. Just stop. We the fans will read just about anything you have to say about the team this time of year. Please, just have something to say before you pen an article. I am asking those that post articles to try to be journalists. If there is no news, please don’t publish an article saying so.

I am a rube. If you write something about the Seahawks, I will probably read it; but my disappointment is palpable when you had nothing at all to write about…yet you did it anyway. It doesn’t take much. Anything about a player’s life or career, anything about the new rookies coming in, anything about how the Seahawks could attack an upcoming contest is worthy of reporting. I beg of you, though, please don’t publish something that has a catchy headline and has text that says "there’s is no news on this front". I am so tired of that.
