What do you get when an NFL team, say, the Seattle Seahawks, wants to protect its starting quarterback, only half the backups are healthy, and three preseason games remain on the slate?
You get more quarterbacks.
Seahawks are in a need of a temporary QB so they signed J.T. Barrett. Also signed linebacker Juwon Young.— Dugar, Michael-Shawn (@MikeDugar) August 10, 2019
Linebacker Chris Worley and safety Marwin Evans were waived.
Barrett was a four-year starter at Ohio State University, where he threw 104 touchdowns to 30 interceptions and finished with a career passer rating of 152.3 in 50 games played. The former Buckeye (6-1, 224 pounds) spent the 2018 season on and off the New Orleans Saints practice squad. He did not appear in a regular-season game. The Saints waived him on August 1.
In addition to signing Barrett, the Seahawks also inked linebacker Juwon Young, an undrafted rookie from the University of Miami and Marshall University, who spent time this summer with the Detriot Lions.
To make room on the roster for Barrett and Young, Seattle waived LB Chris Worley and S Marwin Evans.
The Seahawks travel to meet the Minnesota Vikings next Sunday. Game time is 5 p.m. PDT.
