Seahawks-Chargers injury updates: Marquise Blair out due to back spasms

NFL: Preseason-Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

We are almost at game time for the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Chargers, and while there are no official inactives, rookie safety Marquise Blair is among those not suiting up on Saturday night.

Blair left last week’s loss against the Minnesota Vikings due to back spasms, and he was not in uniform during pre-game warm-ups. This is not particularly surprising news given his lack of practice time this week, but no doubt a bummer given the other rookies who have also been banged up.

However, fellow safety Lano Hill (hip) returns to action for the first time since the end of the 2018 regular season finale against the Arizona Cardinals. Hill is looking to keep his spot on the roster and make a push to be a part of Seattle’s secondary rotation.

As mentioned earlier in the week, Paxton Lynch is out after he was concussed in the Vikings game, so Geno Smith will get all of the non-Russell Wilson snaps tonight. We should also see C.J. Prosise and J.D. McKissic on the field, which is pleasant to see.

On the Chargers side, John Clayton reports that almost all of the Chargers’ first-team defense won’t play, and we know that Philip Rivers will not. So the Seahawks may play their first-team as long as they want, but the Chargers aren’t taking any chances this preseason.

For everyone else who’s an injury concern this week, I guess we’ll know when kickoff begins.
