For a second consecutive day, the Seahawks opened up a roster spot, this time by waiving UDFA defensive tackle Jay-Tee Tiuli. After the roster moves of Monday and Tuesday, Seattle finds themselves with a bit of wiggle room, sitting at 88 players on a 90-man roster.

Tiuli signed with the Seahawks following the 2019 NFL Draft, a rookie free agent from Eastern Washington. The 340-pound defensive tackle was fresh off a Defensive Player of the Year season with intriguing numbers: Four sacks, two pass breakups, 6.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble. It just never translated.

From Tiuli’s first preseason game, he was out-snapped and out-played by fellow UDFA DT Bryan Mone, who seems to have a good shot at the 53, particularly with Jarran Reed’s looming suspension.

Tiuli’s release leaves Seattle with six healthy defensive tackles—Mone, Reed, Al Woods, Earl Mitchell, Poona Ford and Jamie Meder—plus Demarcus Christmas, who remains on the PUP list.
