Cardinals lose Chandler Jones for the season

Syndication: Phoenix Rob Schumacher/The Republic

When the Seattle Seahawks play the Arizona Cardinals this season, star pass rusher Chandler Jones won’t be on the field.

Jones will have season-ending surgery after suffering a right bicep injury in Sunday’s win over the New York Jets. He led the NFL with 19 sacks last season and has 97 for his impressive career, but he’ll end 2020 with just one sack. Jones is nevertheless Arizona’s best defensive player and it’s a huge loss for Arizona’s defense.

Seahawks fans know Chandler Jones all too well even when he was with the New England Patriots, but especially since he was traded to Arizona prior to the start of the 2016 season. In ten career games against the Seahawks, Jones has racked up 13.5 sacks on Russell Wilson, including four in last season’s disastrous Week 16 loss at home to the Cards. Funnily enough, the road win at Arizona that same year marked the only time that Jones had failed to record a sack on Wilson, and indeed he didn’t even had any stats to speak of out of 57 defensive snaps.

Arizona will now turn to the likes of Haason Reddick and Dennis Gardeck to fill that giant void that is the tremendous pass-rushing abilities of Jones.
