Continuing on with the question and answer sessions for Get to Know Field Gulls series, the first installment this afternoon is Managing Editor for the site that feeds your Seattle Seahawks knowledge needs, Mookie Alexander.
How did you become a football fan?
Watching games on my dad’s lap as a kid. I became hooked and then video games like Backyard Football and Madden made me really fall in love with learning and following the game.
How did you become a Seahawks fan?
The Seahawks had Shaun Alexander (same last name as me) and traded for Jerry Rice about a year before I moved to the Seattle area.
Who is your all time favorite Seahawks player? (and why)
Russell Wilson for reasons that are at this point self-explanatory.
How long have you been with Field Gulls? How did you get started?
I’ve been a part of the Field Gulls staff since the end of the 2016. I got started through the fanposts. I was part of the FG community in 2007 and I look back at my teenage years with shock, horror, and incredible regret. I’m proud that I’ve reached the point in my life where I can run Field Gulls and then in my 40s I’ll look back at this part of my life with shock, horror, and incredible regret.
What do you do outside of your work at Field Gulls?
I’m also one of seven editors over at Bloody Elbow, SBN’s premier site for combat sports coverage. My literal job is to write and talk about two sports on the Vox payroll. I haven’t had a “go outside” job in eight years and I was fired inside of two weeks.
Are you in the Seattle area or elsewhere?
Outside of Portland, Oregon.
You get an all expense paid dinner for your family and friends. Where are we going and what are we eating?
Somewhere in Buenos Aires for the finest steak that money can buy. I watched a Parts Unknown (RIP Anthony Bourdain) that featured a drive-thru steakhouse in Uruguay but that’ll be my own special treat. Buenos Aires for the dine-in experience.
What are you known for among your friends? Your claim to fame if you will?
I joke a lot in the same deadpan style you often see in written form. They also all think I sound like a radio DJ.
I-formation with a fullback or shotgun with five wide? Why?
Shotgun with five wide. Sure it takes away play-action but I like my chances in the passing game.
How’s 2020 treated you so far?
I’m alive, I’m healthy, I’m still employed, so I guess I couldn’t ask for much more.
How will the Seahawks fare over the remainder of the season after they return from the bye week?
They’ll play their best football after the bye week but simultaneously drop a few games. I suspect they’ll finish somewhere between 12-4 to 14-2.
What should readers know about you outside of the questions you’ve already answered?
I am much quieter and more reserved in real life than I am online.
