Get to Know Field Gulls podcaster Brandan Schulze

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at Miami Dolphins Jasen Vinlove-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday started with fans getting the chance to learn some about current Field Gulls Managing Editor Mookie Alexander and then going way back with John Morgan. Now, the Saturday Get to Know Field Gulls tour concludes with podcast host Brandan Schulze, whose podcasts about the Seattle Seahawks should be in your regular podcast rotation if it is not already.

How did you become a football fan?

I’m not sure which sport came first between football and baseball, but collecting sports cards was a big part of my childhood growing up.

How did you become a Seahawks fan?

My dad was a huge Seahawks fan. He took me to my first game in the late 80s. Even though we sat up in the very last row of the Kingdome, in a spot that was higher up from and behind where the 12 flag is at CenturyLink, I remember it being an incredible experience.

Who is your all time favorite Seahawks player? (and why)

Steve Largent. By the time I was introduced to football, he was already a Seattle sports icon. I still have the signed card from when I got to meet him in the early 90s after he retired.

How long have you been with Field Gulls? How did you get started?

I joined Field Gulls in February of 2019. Having done the Sea Hawkers Podcast since the start of the Seahawks 2013 season, SB Nation reached out to me about creating episodes for the Field Gulls podcast.

What do you do outside of your work at Field Gulls?

I work for the research and development branch of the U.S. Forest Service.

Are you in the Seattle area or elsewhere?

Northwest Montana. A mere 16-17 hour round-trip drive for going to Seahawks games.

You get an all expense paid dinner for your family and friends. Where are we going and what are we eating?

If people are coming in from out of town, especially if they’ve never visited Kalispell before, we’re all going for pizza and beer at Moose’s Saloon.

What are you known for among your friends? Your claim to fame if you will?

Sometimes my friends are surprised to find out that I’ve been podcasting about the Seahawks for eight years. I should promote that more. Hey friends! Listen to the Field Gulls podcast!

I-formation with a fullback or shotgun with five wide? Why?

If I need less than two yards, and my fullback is Mack Strong, I’ll take I-formation all day. Otherwise, shotgun with five wide.

How’s 2020 treated you so far?

This year has helped me learn that I don’t tolerate any whining about things being “unfair.” If something is out of your control, you accept or deal with things as you can. If it’s within your control then do your best, ask for help if you need it, and accept the outcome. No whining.

How will the Seahawks fare over the remainder of the season after they return from the bye week?

With 11 games left on the schedule, 11-0 is the only correct answer. (Editor’s note: There are 14 games left on the schedule, Brandan. 14-0 is the correct answer. -JPG)

What should readers know about you outside of the questions you’ve already answered?

John Gilbert told me he’d never come on the podcast again if I didn’t submit something.
