Rasheem Green and Phil Haynes to return to practice this week

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers Jim Dedmon-USA TODAY Sports

The Seattle Seahawks are soon to have reinforcements along the line of scrimmage, on both sides of the ball. Pete Carroll told reporters on Wednesday that two players currently on injured reserve, defensive end Rasheem Green and guard Phil Haynes, would return to practice this week. Both players were designated as returning to practice on the league’s transaction wire on Wednesday.

The return of Green will be a welcome addition to a pass rush in need of help. The 2018 third-round pick has appeared in just one game this season, in Week 1, before a neck injury saw him go on injured reserve. The expectation has been for Green to be back shortly after the bye week and now, that looks to be the case.

Haynes, who missed almost all of his rookie season in 2019 through injury, went on I.R. just after roster cuts with a hip injury. With B.J. Finney headed to the Bengals as a part of the team’s package for the incoming Carlos Dunlap, there should be room for another interior lineman on the 53. Provided he is able to get healthy, Haynes should fill that vacated spot.

While Green and Haynes will practice this week, there has yet to be a specific indication as to when they will be activated to the 53-man roster from the injured reserve. However, with the pair officially designated to return, they have three weeks to be activated.
