NFL: San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

It’s Week 8 of the 2020 NFL season and it’s a big one for the Seattle Seahawks (5-1). Once two games up in the NFC West, last week’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals now means that they’ll lose top spot if they fall to the San Francisco 49ers (4-3), who have surged the past two weeks with impressive wins over the Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots. If the Seahawks win, then they’ll not only remain in top spot but have pretty considerable distance over their bitter rivals.

It’s easier to tell you who isn’t playing in this game than who actually is. On the Seahawks side we know there won’t be Shaquill Griffin, most likely no Mike Iupati, Ugo Amadi, or Carlos Hyde, and potentially no Jamal Adams or Chris Carson. We already know they’ve lost Bruce Irvin and Marquise Blair for the season. The 49ers are without Raheem Mostert, Jeff Wilson, Deebo Samuel, and Richie James among a few others. Richard Sherman and Dee Ford are out long term. Kwon Alexander is still out. Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas are done for the year.

But as for the guys we do know are playing, Russell Wilson will try and bounce back from his first three-interception performance since 2017, while Jimmy Garoppolo looks to make it consecutive wins in Seattle. Even with the injuries the 49ers look still very solid on defense, while the Seahawks offense is among the best in the league. Conversely, the Seahawks defense has been a mess, whereas the 49ers offense has been a bit inconsistent. There’s a lot of intrigue behind this one and playoff implications for both.
