Encouraging tweets from Rashaad Penny indicate he’s returning soon

Rashaad Penny is almost back, and his return is far more needed than it seemed when the Seattle Seahawks began this season.

Penny took to social media on Tuesday morning to hint at his excitement for returning to football.

It’s a somewhat significant development for Penny to hype his own rehab. At the very least it’s encouraging for him to talk about his place on the Seahawks, after several months of posting almost exclusively about video games and the NBA. Injury rehab is incredibly hard emotionally and it doesn’t take with everyone. Hopefully he’s still focused, and appears eager.

Meanwhile, this could be incredible news for a Seattle team that may need to continue scoring 35 points or more to win games. Last week was also the second consecutive game without Chris Carson or Carlos Hyde, and it’s as clear as the fact that Jimmy Garoppolo is bad that Deejay Dallas and Travis Homer are not capable of carrying the run game.

Rashaad Penny was one of the two most devastating injuries from the 2019 season, as both he and Will Dissly are young, promising draft picks who had found meaningful success just before season-ending injuries.

If Penny is able to return soon it could likely mean the release of Carlos Hyde, who becomes a bit more expendable if Penny and Carson are back together. However, with the way things have gone this year across the league, no one would fault the team for having some extra insurance in place.

Penny is now eligible to return at any point, having served the minimum PUP requirements.

Look for coach Pete Carroll to be asked about Penny early this week, and we’ll see how he shows up on the injury report or if they’ll look to bring him in the following Thursday against the Arizona Cardinals.
