Must-win? Not quite, but it’s pretty damn close.
The Seattle Seahawks (6-3) are mired in a 1-3 slump after a franchise-best 5-0 start. Russell Wilson has played some of the worst football of his career during this stretch, including a three-interception showing against the Arizona Cardinals (6-3). It was the Cards who handed Seattle their first loss in a 37-34 overtime classic, but the Seahawks largely had themselves to blame considering they didn’t trail at all until overtime.
So what’s at stake here? The Seahawks are in danger of losing the tiebreaker to Arizona by virtue of a season series sweep. Even making the playoffs would not be a 100% lock if not for the safety net of the newly implemented #7 seed. If Seattle does win then they temporarily regain first place (pending the Los Angeles Rams’ game on Monday night versus the Buccaneers) in the division and suddenly things are looking up considering the soft schedule ahead before the Rams rematch.
Seattle is at least getting Carlos Hyde back from injury, along with Benson Mayowa who may be eager to atone for his critical mistake in the first Cardinals game. They’ll need all the help they can get, especially when it comes to slowing down Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins.
