The San Francisco 49ers and, by extension, the Seattle Seahawks, can breathe a sigh of relief. For a second straight day, 49ers wide receiver Kendrick Bourne tested negative for COVID-19. A positive test on Wednesday led to San Francisco’s facility being shut down and saw a number of players go on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Just spoke to #49ers WR Kendrick Bourne’s agent, Henry Organ, regarding his client’s consecutive negative tests: “It’s frustrating because Kendrick has been really responsible with everything. He’s taken COVID-19 very seriously. It’s not a joke to him.”

While Bourne and those close to him suspected it was a false positive after his negative test on Thursday, the wideout is actually an outlier. Bourne is just the fourth player out of 105 to test negative on consecutive days after a positive test. As a result, Bourne, Trent Williams, Deebo Samuel, and Brandon Aiyuk are eligible to come off the reserve/COVID-19 list.
The false positive, which came days after the 49ers’ loss in Seattle, raised concern both for the Seahawks and San Francisco. While Seattle was able to continue their week as scheduled and didn’t see any positive tests arise, the 49ers were not as lucky. San Francisco had to play a gruesome Thursday night contest shorthanded, falling to the Packers 34-17.
