The Seattle Seahawks starting offensive line could look very different after the NFL’s new league year begins March 18th. Germain Ifedi, Mike Iupati, and George Fant are all set to become unrestricted free agents. John Schneider could opt to move on from Justin Britt considering the center’s cap number and that he’ll be returning from an ACL injury.

John P. Gilbert joins the Field Gulls Podcast to discuss how moving on from Britt would not be unprecedented with Richard Sherman in a similar position in the 2018 offseason. Gilbert also says Seattle’s front office has often missed the mark in offensive line valuation. Schneider declined to pick up a fifth-year option on Ifedi last season that would have paid the right tackle upwards of $10 million. Gilbert believes Ifedi is now in position to make significantly more in 2020, and so does former offensive lineman and SB Nation contributor Geoff Schwartz.

The Seahawks also have a significant number of defensive linemen set to become unrestricted free agents. Gilbert discusses how Jadeveon Clowney’s ability to stop the run is likely to keep the Seahawks in a bidding war. In terms of their own free agents they have the opportunity to pay, Gilbert says Clowney gives Seattle the most value for the money.

Tune into Friday’s episode as we go further in depth on the salary cap, discuss Russell Wilson’s latest comments about wanting to run more up-tempo offense and how Shaquille Griffin, Poona Ford and Chris Carson could also see contract extensions sometime before Week 1 of the 2020 season.
