A roundup of Seahawks coaching staff changes

Lost in the shuffle of the coronavirus pandemic and Friday’s cap casualty news around the league is that the Seattle Seahawks have made several changes to their coaching staff. Unless we get some total “holy sh-t!” moment, the main faces at the coordinator positions are staying put for 2020. We did have a few new hires, some reshuffling within the staff (aka promotions), and two assistants will not be returning.

Here’s the quick and dirty rundown of what we know.

Hired

Sanjay Lal - Senior offensive assistant

Damione Lewis - Defensive assistant

Keli’i Kekuewa - Offensive assistant

New position

Brennan Carroll - Run-game coordinator (previously: Offensive scheme specialist/assistant offensive line coach)

Dave Canales - Passing game coordinator (previously: Quarterbacks coach)

Austin Davis - Quarterbacks coach (previously: Offensive assistant)

Nick Sorensen - Secondary coach and nickel specialist (previously: Secondary coach)

Aaron Curry (yes, that Aaron Curry!) - Full-time defensive assistant (previously: Linebackers coaching assistant)

Not returning

Jethro Franklin - Defensive assistant

Steve Shimko - Senior offensive assistant (went to Boston College to be tight ends coach)

It’s crazy that Austin Davis is the most recent non-Russell Wilson quarterback to even enter a regular season game for the Seahawks, and that was three years ago. Now he’s Wilson’s quarterbacks coach.

It should also be noted that Brennan Carroll was reportedly targeted by the University of Hawaii to be their head coach, but that obviously never materialized. Pete’s other son Nate Carroll is the lead wide receivers coach.
