One of the few consistent bright spots for the Seattle Seahawks special teams in recent years has been the play of Neiko Thorpe. Well good news, he’s staying in Seattle!
The unrestricted free agent has re-signed with the team, although contract details were not disclosed.
Officially, Thorpe is reserve cornerback and has played 170 regular season defensive snaps since joining the Seahawks in 2016, but his bread-and-butter is his special teams coverage. The 30-year-old has been a standout as a punt coverage gunner, which has led to rave reviews from Field Gulls staffers named Alistair Corp.

- Returns, does this
- Cowboys gain 1 yard on ensuing drive, punt
- Seahawks take over at Dallas 44, score TD 9 plays later https://t.co/zvPTe8wJii

Thorpe unfortunately had his 2019 season cut short with sports hernia surgery in December. Nickel corner Ugo Amadi did a great job deputizing for him. In an ideal world, even knowing the potential for Amadi to have an increased role in Seattle’s defense this upcoming season, we may see Amadi and Thorpe as the punt gunners you simply don’t want to mess with.
In conclusion, NEIKO THORPE IS STILL WITH THE SEAHAWKS!
