NFL Draft 2020 Day 2 results: Seahawks trade up, trade down, select Darrell Taylor and Damien Lewis

NCAA Football: Gator Bowl-Indiana vs Tennessee Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

We’re through two days of the 2020 NFL Draft, a fact clearly not lost on Roger Goodell, who’s presumably fast asleep at the time of this article’s publish.

The Seattle Seahawks may have failed to make a trade happen on Thursday, but they did get a couple of trades on Friday. Their first move was to move up 11 spots to 48th overall to take Tennessee defensive end Darrell Taylor, who figures to be part of Seattle’s solution to their edge rushing problem. Having sacrificed their 101st overall pick to trade up, they made a nice trade down from 64 to 69, acquiring a fifth-rounder from the Carolina Panthers in the process.

With the 69th pick, the Seahawks selected LSU guard Damien Lewis, a mauler with a penchant for run-blocking in that typical Pete Carroll/John Schneider mold. SEC Network analyst and former Auburn football player Cole Cubelic sees Lewis as a starter. As far as his concerns as a pass-blocker, it’s been termed as his biggest weakness but perhaps not as glaring as we may think. Seattle’s Day 2 theme was diving into that deep SEC talent pool.

Looking at our NFC West rivals, the San Francisco 49ers were idle due to a lack of Day 2 picks. The Arizona Cardinals’ sole draft pick on Friday was Houston tackle Josh Jones early in the third round. As for the Los Angeles Rams, who didn’t have a first-rounder, they went with Florida State RB Cam Akers at #52 overall, then Florida WR Van Jefferson just five picks later. They went towards defense in round three, getting Alabama EDGE Terrell Lewis and Utah safety Terrell Burgess.

The draft concludes on Saturday at 12 PM ET/9 AM PT on ABC, ESPN, and NFL Network.
