With Week 1 officially over, teams can now sign vested veterans without their contracts becoming fully guaranteed for the season. Many fans of the Seahawks hoped Tuesday would bring news of a Damon Harrison signing.
While there has been no movement on the veteran defensive tackle front, Seattle did bring in five free agents for visits and tryouts on Tuesday, per the NFL’s transaction wire.

The three tryouts were defensive end John Daka, defensive back Michael Jacquet, and guard Andrew Jones, all of whom went unselected in the 2020 NFL Draft. Visiting were Breeland Speaks, a second-round pick of the Chiefs in 2018, and Demarcus Christmas, who was waived by the Seahawks during roster cuts.
Jacquet, who played at the University of Louisiana, physically resembles Seattle’s cornerbacks:

Speaks is an interesting name to see as a visit, having been a second-round pick just two years ago but waived by Kansas City during roster cuts last month. The former Ole Miss defensive lineman played in all 16 games as a rookie, finishing with 1.5 sacks. Ahead of the 2019 season, Speaks was placed on I.R. wiping out his season. In December, he was handed a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Capable of playing both 5- and 3-tech, the Seahawks did show an interest in Speaks prior to the 2018 NFL Draft.
After missing all of his rookie season with an injury, Christmas failed to make Seattle’s 53-man roster out of camp this year. The Seahawks didn’t show an interest in adding him to their practice squad but have now brought him in for a visit after the Lions did the same last week.
Seattle is still expected to make an addition to their defensive line and as of Tuesday, Speaks or Christmas are possibilities.
