Pete Carroll one of three coaches fined for mask noncompliance

NFL: New England Patriots at Seattle Seahawks Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports

Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll opted to throw deep on 3rd-and-one and then punt on 4th-and-one late Sunday night against the New England Patriots.

That decision almost proved incredibly costly - almost game-ending - as the Patriots were able to come within a yard of the winning touchdown.

It’s not the only decision Pete Carroll made on Sunday that cost the Seahawks.

Carroll made a $350,000 decision to not wear his mask for the duration of the game against New England.

Mike Florio of PFT noted that several coaches were not complying with the new NFL policy, whether all or in part, throughout Week 2. As the memo states, this rule “requires all individuals with bench area access (including coaches and members of the club medical staff) to wear face coverings at all times.” While varying shades of impropriety were in play, only these three coaches were singled out to begin the dropping of the financial hammer.

I’d expect several more coaches will get overexcited and fail to keep the masks on a few more times this season.
