Jaguars expected to hire Darrell Bevell as offensive coordinator

It looks like three former Seattle Seahawks coordinators all have found new jobs over the past couple of weeks.

Defensive coordinator Gus Bradley went from the Los Angeles Chargers to the Las Vegas Raiders, while former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn landed the role as the Dallas Cowboys DC.

On the offensive side of the ball, Darrell Bevell served as both the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator and interim head coach after Matt Patricia was fired. As Detroit cleans house and enters the kneecap-busting hijinx that will be the Dan Campbell era, Bevell appears to be headed for Jacksonville under new head coach Urban Meyer.

Bevell was hired by Patricia in Detroit back in 2019, in part to help the Lions revamp a wretched rushing attack. Needless to say, it wasn’t particularly successful and Detroit remained in the 20s in rush offense DVOA and almost at the very bottom in rushing EPA. In Bevell’s defense, the 2020 starter was a 114-year-old Adrian Peterson and the Lions literally haven’t even had a 1,000-yard rusher since Reggie Bush in 2013. It’s the Barry Sanders Curse, if you will.

The Jaguars play the Seahawks this season at Lumen Field in what will be Bevell’s first game against Seattle since he was fired in 2017. In all likelihood, Bevell will once again be tasked with building an offense around a rookie quarterback as he did with Russell Wilson. On this occasion, his quarterback is almost certainly going to be Trevor Lawrence out of Clemson.
