Brian Schottenheimer hired by Jacksonville Jaguars as passing game coordinator

Jacksonville Jaghawks? Seattleville Seaguars? Is there such a thing as a Sea-Jaguar? Let’s get Sir David Attenborough on that.

Anyway, the Jacksonville Jaguars have not one, but two former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinators on the coaching staff. Darrell Bevell was already hired as Urban Meyer’s offensive coordinator, and now Brian Schottenheimer joins forces with Bevell to be the team’s passing game coordinator.

He’ll also be the quarterbacks coach per Ian Rapoport, so Schottenheimer will get to develop (presumably) Clemson star Trevor Lawrence. After getting to coach Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson, Schotty goes back to trying to develop young quarterbacks such as Mark Sanchez and Sam Bradford.

Oh yes, and don’t forget that Brian Schneider is also Jacksonville’s new special teams coordinator. That’s three ex-Pete Carroll assistants who will be together in Duval County, although Bevell and Schotty obviously never worked together.

The Jaguars seem to be big fans of the Seahawks coaching tree. Gus Bradley was the team’s head coach for a few very bad seasons and Todd Wash was actually retained after Bradley was fired and served as the defensive coordinator under Doug Marrone.

Jacksonville will be at the Seahawks in 2021 so we will see Bevell, Schotty, and Schneider all at Lumen Field one more time.

By the way, not too far away from Jacksonville is the hiring of another former Seahawks player/assistant coach. The New Orleans Saints are adding Kris Richard to their staff as the secondary coach. Richard was out of football last year after the Cowboys effectively cleaned house at the end of 2019.
