Rejoice! Seahawks bringing back Carlos Dunlap

Kudos to ESPN’s Brady Henderson because he predicts these things.

The Seattle Seahawks cut Carlos Dunlap as a cap casualty, but with Jarran Reed on his way out, Dunlap is on his way back.

Dunlap has agreed to a two-year deal worth $16.6 million and $8.5 million guaranteed. We don’t know if there’s a void second year in there but whatever the case, his cap hit for both seasons will be cheaper than the $14 million he was set to make in 2021.

Dunlap was Seattle’s best pass rusher last season, recording five sacks and 15 quarterback hits as a midseason acquisition. All Seattle had to do was send B.J. Finney and a seventh-round pick for his services and in the short-term it helped transform what was a struggling Seahawks defensive line.

Now things will be a bit different and surely for the better. Kerry Hyder Jr was signed earlier in the week, Benson Mayowa was re-signed, and we’ll hopefully get to see what Darrell Taylor can provide. Alton Robinson, L.J. Collier, Poona Ford, Bryan Mone, and Rasheem Green round out the young rotational pieces, while Dunlap is the veteran of the squad.
