NFL approves 17-game regular season, Seahawks at Steelers set for 2021

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at Pittsburgh Steelers Philip G. Pavely-USA TODAY Sports

The end of an era.

An NFL season will now mean 17 games, giving some cellar-dwelling team’s QB a chance to throw for 6,000 yards someday in our lifetime.

Andrew Siciliano has shared the 17th game for each team, which will come into play this coming season.

The Seattle Seahawks will be on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 18 of the 2021 season*. All NFC teams will have a ninth road game, while next year all NFC teams will have nine home games. It is the only way to keep it for the playoff conference seeding in that conference each season.

It’s a tough draw for the West as they get three playoff teams in the AFC North. Then there’s the San Francisco 49ers who escaped a more challenging matchup.

The new game effectively replaces the final preseason game, as there will now be three preseason games instead of four.

Update: Week 18 is the “extra week” but this Steelers game will not be the regular season finale. The schedule will be released in May and ideally the NFL will maintain the all-divisional matchup final week.
