Seahawks opponent will be without key defensive player due to PED suspension

It’s never too early to do a report on who’s in/who’s out for an upcoming Seattle Seahawks game, is it?

New Orleans Saints defensive tackle David Onyemata disclosed on Friday that he tested positive for PEDs (but did not disclose what he popped for). That netted him a six-game suspension from the league, but he will be eligible to play in the team’s preseason games.

Seattle hosts the Saints on Monday Night Football in Week 7 (Oct. 25), but the Saints will be coming off a bye so that’ll be the final game of Onyemata’s suspension.

Onyemata is coming off a career high 6.5 sacks and has started 30 of New Orleans’ last 32 regular season games. He’d have started every game in 2019 if not for a one-game suspension for marijuana. The Saints signed him to a three-year, $27 million contract extension in the previous offseason and he’s established himself as a name to watch on their defensive line.

This leaves New Orleans very thin at defensive tackle, as Sheldon Rankins signed with the New York Jets as a free agent and Malcom Brown was traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars. If you want to feel absolutely ancient, one of the DTs on the roster right now is Lorenzo Neal Jr.
