It has been less than a week since the Seattle Seahawks reported to training camp, and while the team’s first padded practice of camp is Monday, roster cuts are already looming. In recent years the NFL had reduced the process of teams trimming their roster from 90 to 53 to a single day of cuts at the end of preseason, however, things will be different this year.

As an offset to the regular season increasing from 16 games to 17, the preseason dropped from four “games” to three, with a round of cuts after each. That means that with the Hawks set to provide fans a football like substance on Saturday, August 14 against the Las Vegas Raiders, their first set of cuts are due two weeks from Tuesday.

The full schedule of cuts for all 32 teams are as follows:

  • Roster reduction from 90 to 85: 4 pm New York Time on Tuesday, August 17
  • Roster reduction from 85 to 80: 4 pm New York Time on Tuesday, August 24
  • Roster reduction from 80 to 53: 4 pm New York Time on Tuesday, August 31

Players subject to waivers during the final round of cuts will learn if another team placed a claim on Wednesday, September 1 prior to 4 pm New York Time. After all waiver claims have been processed, teams may begin assembling their practice squad on September 1 after 4 pm New York Time.
