Injury update: Penny Hart has legit ankle sprain

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Saturday the Seattle Seahawks will host the Denver Broncos in Week 2 of the preseason with another opportunity for players to show what they can do on the field. With the league returning to multiple rounds of roster cuts, there will be a short turnaround before the Hawks have to decide by 4 PM New York time Tuesday which five players will not stay with the team through the final preseason game. It will then be just another week before final roster cuts, with teams across the league required to trim down to 53 players on August 31.

Seattle currently has 11 wide receivers on the roster, with Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and Dee Eskridge locked into three spots, meaning the other eight guys are fighting for the final two or three jobs. With that being the case, one of the names that had been mentioned repeatedly as standing out during offseason work as well as early in training camp, Penny Hart, has not been able to practice in recent weeks due to an ankle injury. On Friday Pete Carroll gave an update on Hart’s status, using the dreaded ‘L’ word.

Carroll proceeded to state that they expect Hart back at practice in the middle of next week, which could give him an opportunity to play in the preseason finale against the Los Angeles Chargers.

In any case, with Hart remaining out, Carroll stated it would give other guys like John Ursua and Travis Toivonen a greater opportunity to show what they can do.

For those who would like to watch Carroll’s Pre-Week 2 press conference in it’s entirety, it is available to be watched here. (There are about ten and a half minutes of the “Live Stream Starting Soon” board so simply click forward to the 10:25 mark to see what Carroll had to say.)
