Remember when the Rams scored just 3 points in Super Bowl LIII?
Yeah that was hilarious.
But even with their offensive ineptitude, they were still in a deadlock with the New England Patriots in the 4th quarter... until running back Sony Michel plunged in from two yards out for the go-ahead touchdown. And now the currently running back starved Rams are Michel’s newest team.
Patriots are trading RB Sony Michel to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for two late-round conditional draft picks, per sources.

New England gets back two picks, the Rams get needed talent and depth at running back.
Compensation update: It’s a 5th rounder and 6th rounder this year that converts to a 4th rounder when/if the #Rams get a 4th round comp pick. Complicated, but essentially Sony Michel for a 4th round pick. Solid value. https://t.co/eWVzq9bcaT

Michel pretty much peaked his rookie season and did have six rushing touchdowns in the playoffs, but he scarcely featured in 2020 due to both injuries and the emergence of Damien Harris. Add in 2021 rookie Rhamondre Stevenson’s impressive preseason and Michel’s roster spot was in jeopardy. In fact New England was apparently looking to trade Michel since this year’s Draft, so now they’ve finally found a trading partner just two weeks out from the regular season.
The Rams lost Cam Akers for the season to a torn achilles before preseason even started. Darrell Henderson is out with a sprained thumb, leaving Los Angeles with just UDFA rookie, Otis Anderson Jr, seventh-round rookie Jake Funk, and second-year UDFA Xavier Jones on the depth chart. Michel presumably is now the favorite to be LA’s new starter and it’s a chance for him to revitalize his career.
