The Seattle Seahawks, along with the other 31 teams across the NFL must trim their rosters from 80 players to 53 prior to 4 PM New York time Tuesday. That means that 27 of the players who have been with the team in recent weeks will no longer be around, at least until Wednesday when teams are able to begin forming their practice squads.
The next few days are likely to be full of news, reports, rumors and excitement as players across the league are waived, released, claimed, awarded and traded as teams come into compliance with the roster size requirements.
The important deadlines to keep in mind are:
- 4 PM New York time Tuesday August 31: Teams must trim roster to 53 players
- 4 PM New York time Wednesday September 1: Waiver claims deadline for players waived 8/31
- After 4:01 PM New York time on September 1: Practice squads may be formed and players moved to IR-return (any player moved to IR prior to 4:00 PM New York time Wednesday is not eligible to return to the roster during the 2021 season).
Rumors, reports and updates on developments surrounding the Seahawks roster cuts will be posted here, so keep checking back here on Field Gulls as the updates roll in.

Recently added tight end Ian Bunting is also reportedly set to be waived.

...As is tight end Cam Sutton
They’re also waiving TE Cam Sutton, I’m told. The big question with that group is now whether Colby Parkinson will begin the year on IR. His iffy status and the moves today bode well for Tyler Mabry making the 53. And we’ll see if Bunting and/or Sutton land on the practice squad. https://t.co/ymbZvg91eK

Recently acquired cornerback John Reid joins the list.
#Seahawks waiving John Reid. That felt like a foregone conclusion to me after the Jones acquisition. Team doesn't have to give up a seventh round conditional pick to Texans.
