Tuesday the Seattle Seahawks shocked fans when they opted to keep three quarterbacks on the 53 man roster in Russell Wilson, Geno Smith and Sean Mannion. Many had expected that Mannion, who played his college football at Oregon State would be released, likely to be signed to the practice squad.
On Wednesday fans who had expected Mannion’s release got their wish, just a day late.

What remains surprising, however, is that even though the Seahawks are releasing Mannion, they will continue to have three quarterbacks on the 53 man roster. Filling the third quarterback spot, at least for the time being, will be Jake Luton, who had been with the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to being waived on Tuesday.
Luton started his college career at Idaho before transferring to Oregon State, where he played for three years. In Corvallis he threw for 5,630 yards and 43 touchdowns, with 28 of those coming during his senior season.
