2021 NFL Season: Seahawks at Colts 1st Quarter game thread

It’s been 246 days since the Seattle Seahawks’ 2020 season ended in bitter disappointment. Their home playoff loss to the Los Angeles Rams came a mere two weeks after beating the Rams to win the NFC West.

This year, the Super Bowl will be held at SoFi Stadium, home of the Rams. Wouldn’t it be nice to get some measure of revenge and win the Lombardi Trophy in their building? But we know all too well that that’s far easier said than done. This is an extremely important year for a team that really has not been close to returning to the Super Bowl since 2014. They have only one playoff win over the last four seasons.

Russell Wilson has a new offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron, who will look to maintain the Seahawks’ history of fielding top-10 offenses but with superior process and greater consistency compared to his predecessors.

The expectation is that Pete Carroll’s team should make the playoffs, as has been the case in all but one of Wilson’s 9 seasons in Seattle and all but two of Carroll’s 11. It’s a matter of whether they’re good enough to make a deep run.

Seattle will kick off its 2021 campaign against an Indianapolis Colts team that narrowly missed out on winning the AFC South and then narrowly lost its Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills. Philip Rivers was the quarterback then, Carson Wentz is the quarterback now and he’s reunited with head coach Frank Reich. They have a star running back in Jonathan Taylor and a defense that boasted the 7th best defense by DVOA in 2020.

You know the drill by now! We’re in the regular season now so game threads will be published by quarter. Do not use GIFs or embed anything that will slow the comments section down, do not start fights, don’t go overboard with player criticism and make it personal, and no illegal stream links.

Oh yeah, and I have one sentence for you to complete...
