Tre Flowers appears to have won the second starting corner spot

After DJ Reed was moved to the left side cornerback last week, much speculation ensued about who would take over the starting role on the right side. It appears as though fourth-year corner Tre Flowers has taken back his role as the starting RCB.

Quoted by Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times, Pete Carroll said of the move to send Reed to the left side, “Tre had such a good camp. He just battled every day and did a great job. And, you know, when you let guys compete, sometimes you don’t know how it’s gonna turn out. That’s the whole idea. And I thought Trey had a fantastic camp. And so that’s why he gets a chance on the right side.” Then Carroll was asked directly about Flowers being the starter on the right and he responded, “you’ll see.”

Pete Carroll has always employed a system of right/left cornerback and it appears that Flowers and Reed will be his starters. Last year Reed took the job from an injured Flowers and kept it, with Shaquill Griffin occupying LCB. Griffin is now in Jacksonville so Reed takes Shaq’s spot instead.

If he indeed has won the job, Flowers will be starting over newcomer Ahkello Witherspoon and the newest of newcomers Sidney Jones IV.
