The final roster cuts for the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday were just the beginning of the fun when it comes to roster machinations, as they have been busy making changes at the fringes since then.
Wednesday they added a pair of players from waivers in Dakoda Shepley from the San Francisco 49ers and Nigel Warrior from the Baltimore Ravens, while moving on from Phil Haynes and Sean Mannion. Then came the formation of the practice squad Wednesday before practice, with the Sidney Jones trade becoming official a little bit later in the day. That put the roster for the team at a full 53, with three open spots on the practice squad.
Thursday, however, the machinations continued.
The Seahawks put OT Cedric Ogbuehi (bicep) on injured reserve, signed QB Jake Luton to the roster and added CB Michael Jackson to the practice squad.

The move of Cedric Ogbuehi to injured reserve was known a little bit earlier in the day, and that transaction frees up space for the addition of quarterback Jake Luton. Luton played in Jay Gruden’s offense for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020, and as Sean McVay and Shane Waldron both have history with Gruden, it’s understandable why the team might look to a young signal caller who has experience in a system that uses much of the same verbiage and concepts as the new Seattle offense.
In addition the Hawks added cornerback Michael Jackson to the practice squad. Jackson was a fifth round pick of the Dallas Cowboys out of Miami in 2019, but failed to make the 53 man roster out of camp and was signed to the practice squad. He remained on the practice squad until being poached by the Detroit Lions just eight days after the Lions had traded Quandre Diggs to Seattle. Jackson is a long corner in the mold the Seahawks have traditionally preferred on the outside.
