Seahawks promote Tyler Mabry to active roster

The Seattle Seahawks needed to clear some space on the practice squad to bring in Jordan Simmons, and they’ve done so by bumping a player up to the 53-man roster.

On Monday the team announced that tight end Tyler Mabry has been promoted, which allowed Simmons to join the practice squad and once again have that roster all occupied at 16 players plus Aaron Donkor.

The obvious thing to note here with Mabry is the near certainty that Colby Parkinson won’t be available for the Seahawks’ season opener against the Indianapolis Colts. Pete Carroll had hinted there was a chance he’d be back by then but the belief is that his foot injury won’t require a long-term absence like last season.

Another aspect of this move is that Seattle once again has 53 players, but with the report from Dave Wyman that the team intends to sign Bless Austin to the active roster, that means someone else has got to go.
