There's a little boosting going on here because unlike the early days of ESPN's Monday Night Football (which dates back to 2006), this game was available on ABC, ESPN+, ESPN2. and ESPN Deportes. But the game lived up to the hype and it was heavily promoted from the day the schedule was released. Almost 20 million viewers is a big deal regardless of how many channels it was on. The combined 11.1 rating is the highest MNF Week 1 rating since 2000, and the third-most watched MNF game on ESPN in history.
