Despite having sensational rookie Devon Witherspoon, The Seattle Seahawks have had a problem in the secondary.
Update from Pete Carroll on Devon Witherspoon's rib injury and on the decision to hold Geno Smith out of the game: https://t.co/rtMC53AcVR— John Boyle (@johnpboyle) December 11, 2023
Spoon got bruised ribs. We don’t know how extensive that is; if he could have gone back in, he would have.
Witherspoon has probably fallen off the train for Defensive Rookie of the Year, but he’s clearly been the most impactful player on defense this season.
Mike Jackson was back on field following the departure of Witherspoon in the first quarter at San Francisco.
Witherspoon’s injury is officially day-to-day. It is the same injury that did not sideline DK Metcalf earlier this season, but did have him limited and clearly in pain in the early part of the season.
Carroll did not rule Witherspoon out nor available for Monday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
UPDATE: Pete Carroll has since clarified that it is actually a hip pointer, and not the ribcage, that was injured. His status remains the same.
