Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Each week we ask questions of the most plugged-in Seattle Seahawks fans and fans across the country.
The Seahawks lost again last week 41-35 in prime time to the Dallas Cowboys. It was a game they could have won but didn’t. What else is new.
Offensively, they finally broke out of a funk with five TDs. Maybe that’s why fan confidence is on the upswing?
That’s tongue-in-cheek, since that upswing only brings the confidence meter up to a whopping 29%. Not surprising since Seattle is in danger of losing their fourth game in a row as they match up against the San Francisco 49ers.
Other results from last week didn’t do Seattle any favors in terms of playoff positioning as both the Los Angeles Rams and Green Bay Packers won to improve to 6-6, knocking the Seahawks out of the wild card if the playoffs started today.
But they don’t. The NFC as a whole is pretty poor, so a 9-8 record could get Seattle in the playoffs. If they can somehow win this week or next and get to 10-7 a playoff berth is pretty likely. How are the fans feeling about those chances?
I can’t say I blame you. The road to the playoffs that was laid out in front of Seattle has been littered with potholes, U-turns, and detour signs over the last month. Now, the Seahawks have to hope that a few other teams run out of gas.
Seattle could turn a whole host of frowns upside down by stealing a win in Santa Clara this weekend against the San Francisco 49ers. That’s a tall task since they were bludgeoned by these same 49ers 31-13 at home on Thanksgiving night. Since they lost by 18 points last time, that’s the measuring stick for the next survey question. Will the Seahawks lose by more than 18 points “against” the 49ers?
Hey, the majority thinks that Seattle will fare better this time! Not that you believe they’ll win the game but 53% of you expect the Seahawks to keep it within three scores. I guess that would be progress?
Speaking of progress, that leads right into the main question in this week’s poll of whether or not the Seahawks have underachieved with the 2023 roster.
Seattle had a great draft in 2022 and 2023 looked to be another home run for the front office. Yet, Seattle is sitting at 6-6 and 77% of you believe they have underachieved with the 2023 roster. This is still a very young team that is learning the hard way about not finishing games. A win this week or next (or both!) would be a huge shot of confidence that could turn the season around. Should we expect it? No, but it would be a neat surprise and I’d like to see what would happen to some of these poll results.
