BREAKING: Pete Carroll out as Seahawks head coach

The headline says it all, as the Seahawks are expected to be in the market for a new coach

NFL: Seattle Seahawks at Arizona Cardinals Matt Kartozian-USA TODAY Sports

Sunday the 2023 season of the Seattle Seahawks ended with a win over the Arizona Cardinals when kicker Matt Prater, who missed five field goals all season, missed a pair of field goals in the final three minutes of the game. Those misses came shortly after the Hawks had been eliminated from the playoffs for the second time in three seasons when the Green Bay Packers held off the Chicago Bears, and then the offseason started.

And on Wednesday afternoon the offseason truly started for Seattle, according to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter.

So, at least according to this report, the Seahawks are expected to move on from head coach Pete Carroll and will be in the market for a new head coach for the first time since 2010, and for just the third time since Vulcan acquired the team more than two decades ago. Carroll brought Seattle its first Lombardi, but just a single playoff win in the past seven seasons was not enough for Pete to keep his job, with the team failing to replicate the season of his earlier seasons in recent years.

Field Gulls will keep fans updated on what this means for the rest of the coaching staff and front office.

UPDATE:

And now it’s officially official.
