Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the NFL. Each week we ask questions of the most plugged-in Seattle Seahawks fans and fans across the country.
The 2023 regular season is in the books for the Seattle Seahawks, and it will go down as the final season of the Pete Carroll era in Seattle after the Hawks opted to move in another direction after Seattle failed to qualify for the postseason for the second time in three seasons. Who the new coach will be and what kind of changes are in store for the Seahawks are anyone’s guess at this point, but with the offseason starting off with more uncertainty than usual.
Looking back past just the decision to move on from Pete and at the results of the Week 18 contest against the Arizona Cardinals, fan confidence rebounded following yet another winning season, in spite of the organization opting to make 2023 the final season of Carroll’s time as head coach.
That puts current fan confidence roughly right in the middle of the range it displayed during the season, with confidence polling lower seven times throughout the season and higher nine times. Or, in other words, nine times fan confidence clocked in above 50%, and eight times it came in below that level.
Regardless of whether fans believe the team is heading in the right direction or not, the majority of fans do believe that the Hawks made the right decision in opting to make a change at head coach.
Thus, there were certainly fans who did not wish to see the team move on from the winningest coach in franchise history, and every roster transaction and outcome will be judged by many relative to the lens of what Carroll would have or might have done. However, after fourteen seasons, two conference championships and the first Super Bowl win in franchise history, there will be a new head coach on the sideline for the Seahawks in 2024.
