NFL Week 18 Sunday picks: Seahawks vs. Cardinals, Packers vs. Bears for final Wild Card spot

The Seahawks can still make the playoffs...

So it comes down to this. For the second year in a row, the Seattle Seahawks stand on the precipice of a 9-8 season and a playoff berth. Similarly, their fates rest not only in their own hands, but in the hands of another NFC team; this time around, it is the Chicago Bears, who need to beat the Green Bay Packers in order for the Seahawks to get in with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, the Hawks still have to beat the Cards, and that isn’t a given. The good news is that in the event that Seattle does make the playoffs, they could end up facing the Philadelphia Eagles or Detroit Lions (who they beat), or the Dallas Cowboys (who they played down to the wire). The San Francisco 49ers have already locked up that sweet, sweet first round bye, so the outcome of their game is meaningless for them, but not entirely meaningless for the LA Rams, who have clinched a Wild Card spot but could end up with the six or seventh seed depending on how some other games shake out.

Seahawks @ Cardinals — 1:25pm — FOX — O/U 48

The Seahawks... what can be said about them? Well, DraftKings Sportsbook is saying that they are favored in this one, despite all their inconsistencies. I actually agree with them; Seattle can close out the season with win, which could either mean playoffs if things go right. I expect them to come out motivated; not exceptionally so, but they will look better than the lethargic team that took to the field last week. The Cardinals would love to play spoiler, but who knows if there is even anything to spoil.

The pick: Under 48 points, Seahawks win and cover

Bears @ Packers — 1:25pm — CBS — O/U 45

The Packers famously fell to the Lions to close out last season, which as you may remember sealed the playoff spot for the Hawks and eliminated the favored Green Bay Packers. History may repeat itself, though this year their opponent is the Chicago Bears. As much as I want to pick Da’ Bears in this one... I just don’t think I can. DraftKings Sportsbook seems to agree, as they list the Packers as favorites by a field goal.

The pick: Under 45 points, Packers win and cover

Rams @ 49ers — 1:25pm — FOX — O/U 42

In a normal matchup, the Niners would probably be more heavily favored. But neither team has too much to play for in this one. The Rams more so than the 49ers, but not a whole lot; they already announced they would be starting Carson Wentz at QB and resting their offensive stars. Accordingly, DraftKings Sportsbook is favoring the 49ers in this one, but only by a little more than a field goal. I guess this comes down to a battle of depth, and I trust the Niners to win in that department.

The pick: Under 42 points, 49ers win and cover

Eagles @ Giants — 1:25pm — CBS — O/U 42

Despite making the playoffs last season and signing Daniel Jones to a big extension, the Giants took a step back in 2023 (how big of a step is open for debate). The Eagles, meanwhile, have persisted as one of the NFC’s toughest teams. Unfortunately for them, the 49ers have clamped down on the top overall seed. Still, it is important nonetheless as their main competition for the second spot in the NFC are their rivals — the Cowboys — who can lock down the second spot with a win over the Commanders. The Eagles need a win and a Cowboys loss, but since both games kick of simultaneously, that minimizes the possibility of the two impacting each other. DraftKings Sportsbook is only favoring Philadelphia by five points, and I think that sounds very doable.

The pick: Over 42 points, Eagles win and cover the spread

Cowboys @ Commanders — 1:25pm — FOX — O/U 46

The Cowboys are such a difficult team to pin-down this season, alternatively looking like serious contenders and/or serious pretenders in any given contest. The Commanders, on the other hand, have crawled their way to 4-12 season and are clearly looking towards next season at this point. DraftKings Sportsbook is clearly favoring Dallas in this one by two scores. I think that is a bit on the heavy side — I think that the Cowboys can win, but the Commanders can keep it within two scores.

The pick: Under 46 points, Cowboys win but the Commanders cover
