Disrespect?! PFF ranks DK Metcalf outside the top-20 in wide receiver rankings

Quick! It’s a rankings post! Let’s debate!

The Seattle Seahawks have the second-most expensive wide receiver room in the NFL for 2024, but in Pro Football Focus’ rankings, they don’t even have a top-20 receiver, let alone top-10.

PFF has been ranking players at various positions throughout the month, and the wide receivers list will surely spark some debate. There is one caveat here pertaining to rookies, which I’ll let them explain:

Here, we are going to rank the top 32 wide receivers in the league. Rookies are eligible, though they bring the most projection given we have yet to see them play a snap at this level. We know their college production, can project their performances at this level, and now we know who will be throwing them the football and what their situation is like, but there is still a huge unknown in their futures.

The San Francisco 49ers, which has the most expensive WR group, are the only team with multiple receivers in the top 10, with Brandon Aiyuk (8th) ahead of Deebo Samuel (10th). That may not last long if one of them gets traded before the season starts. Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson obviously is at the top, which at this point is leaning toward consensus opinion.

While the Miami Dolphins (Tyreek Hill), Chicago Bears (D.J. Moore), and Dallas Cowboys (CeeDee Lamb) all have players in the top-10 while simultaneously rounding out the five most expensive WR groups, the Seahawks are the outlier. DK Metcalf is way down at No. 24.

24. DK METCALF, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

Not the nuanced route runner of some other receivers on this list, D.K. Metcalf nevertheless brings an overwhelming physical profile to the table that most cornerbacks can’t hope to match. He has 50 explosive plays over the last two seasons.

Metcalf is directly ahead of LSU’s Malik Nabers, who was drafted by the New York Giants last month. Mike Evans, Marvin Harrison Jr, Keenan Allen, and Jaylen Waddle are Nos. 20-23.

Tyler Lockett doesn’t even get a mention in the top-32, by the way.

Since entering the league in 2019, Metcalf ranks 16th in total receptions, 10th in receiving yards, and 5th in receiving touchdowns among all wide receivers. Yes, there have been some drops and ill-disciplined moments with penalties, but he has been extremely productive while playing in an offense that ranks 26th in pass attempts during DK’s career.

I won’t argue for Metcalf in the top-10 when Jefferson, Hill, Adams, Lamb, etc. are at the top, but outside the top-20? Maybe you’re in agreement, which is why we have this poll for you to vote at the bottom of the page!
