Mock draft Wednesday’s: 6th March (trade edition) " Seahawks Draft Blog
Today I’m going to do something I’ve never done before. A mock draft with trades. Considering the fruitless nature of trying to predict 32 picks anyway, I thought I might as well throw in a few deals to change the angle of the debate.

John Schneider has pockets " Seahawks Draft Blog
Last year, we predicted that Seattle would go pass rusher in round one. We predicted Seattle would go linebacker in round two. We predicted they’d go running back in round three and quarterback in round four. I also thought they’d add a second linebacker, as well as a corner and safety in the later picks.

Morning links: ESPN analyst Herm Edwards thinks Flynn stays put | Seahawks Insider - The News Tribune
"I don’t know if they even trade him," Edwards said. "Keep the guy. I think his base (salary) is like $5 million, which is about what some of these quarterbacks make anymore when they’re the backups. That’s just mindboggling to me. But if I’m Pete Carroll, you know you’re always one injury away from losing your starting quarterback. "And they went out and acquired Matt Flynn to compete to be the starting quarterback. I think they still feel pretty good about him. The problem is Russell Wilson has become a franchise guy for them. And that’s a good thing. You draft a guy in the third round, you can anticipate this guy to have a great future in Seattle. But unless you get something you really want, you keep the guy."

2013 NFL draft - Tennessee WR Justin Hunter backed up game tape at the combine - ESPN
The workout numbers that come out of the NFL combine get plenty of attention, and they are a useful tool for scouts when formulating final evaluation on prospects. Strong numbers can put a final stamp on a high grade for some players, but for others they simply don't match up to what we see during film study. Some prospects confirm what we've seen on many hours of game tape, while others force us to take a deeper look to see if we missed anything in our initial scouting report.

Report: Broncos could release Elvis Dumervil if he doesn’t agree to a pay cut | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports
As it turns out, Darrelle Revis might not be the only high-ticket defender who might find a new home this offseason. According to a report from the Denver Post, the Denver Broncos want defensive end Elvis Dumervil to take a pretty serious pay cut, and they may release the three-time Pro Bowler and one-time first-team All-Pro if he doesn't agree. Dumervil has a $12 million base salary for the 2013 season, and carries a $13.6 million cap hit this year, and the Broncos need to move that money around. According to our own Brian McIntyre, the Broncos enter this free-agency period with $14.93 million in cap space, and they certainly don't want one guy taking that up.

Futures: Arkansas RB Knile Davis | The Rookie Scouting Portfolio
When I saw the 2012 Lewin Career Forecast, I had already studied Russell Wilson. In fact, I told a panel of draft analysts on a National Football Post podcast (beginning at the 17:42 mark) that included Josh Norris, Wes Bunting, and Josh Buchanan that Wilson was my sleeper quarterback in this draft. I was cynical that Wilson would be picked before the third round, but once Seattle opted for the N.C. State-Wisconsin quarterback, my immediate thought was that Wilson would be a pivotal test case against height bias in the NFL.

I love this draft. It has defensive-minded Jene Bramel taking gunslinger Jay Cutler, yours truly ditching offense for two monolithic bad boys with wheels on the defensive line, and Football Outsiders’ founder Aaron Schatz talking intangibles. Intangibles!

Last year, it was widely presumed that the Eagles would cut cornerback Asante Samuel and his eight-figure salary. Then, out of nowhere, the Eagles traded Samuel to the Falcons.

Cosell’s Take: The Chip Kelly litmus test | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports
The NFL game right now is truly fascinating. It’s evolving in so many interesting ways. Many traditional staples remain, but different concepts and tactics have taken hold. This has been particularly evident on the offensive side of the ball, where the infusion of what were once viewed solely (and negatively) as college schemes become more and more prevalent. There has been increasing integration between Saturday football and Sunday football, the most noticeable, of course, being the read option and the Pistol.
