The Seahawks have placed 5th round draft pick Jesse Williams on the injured reserve and released linebackers Kyle Knox and Craig Wilkins, wide receiver Perez Ashford, tight ends Jameson Konz and Andrei Lintz, defensive tackle Martin Parker and snapper Kyle Nelson. They also terminated the veteran contract of receiver Brett Swain.
The Williams move to Injured Reserve had become pretty apparent of late with the trade for DT Sealver Siliga and the signing of DT Dewayne Cherrington. The Hawks are obviously looking to add a little beef up front and plan to take the slow, conservative route with Williams' knee, which was a big part of the reason the Alabama star dropped into the fifth round this year. With Williams rehabbing in 2013, Siliga's shot at the roster just took a huge boost, and for what it's worth, I thought he looked really good out there on Friday. Conversely, Jesse Williams' play two weeks ago against Denver was troublesome, and I had thought for a while that he just didn't look 'right'. He seems slow and stiff, and I imagine he loses a lot of his power if he's favoring his knee.
The eight other roster moves come as no surprise. Knox and Wilkens had fallen behind Allen Bradford and John Lotulelei, among others, in the linebackers depth chart. Konz and Lintz are well behind Sean McGrath, Darren Fells, and Cooper Helfet. Martin Parker was recently signed off the street so I guess he'll probably revert to the ghost roster, and Kyle Nelson must not have been good enough to beat out Clint Gresham. I liked what I saw from Perez Ashford, but Seattle's depth at that position is just too good at this point. Brett Swain - I wonder if he'll get picked back up by the Niners now.
The Seahawks till have six cuts to make before Tuesday.
