NFL Supplemental Draft 2013: Start time, eligible prospects

Bob Levey

UPDATE - no players were selected in this year's supplemental draft.

------------------

The NFL Supplemental Draft will take place today (Thursday) at 1pm EST (10am PST).

As Mocking The Draft's Dan Kadar points out, six players are eligible.

The six players (in alphabetical order) are UNLV defensive end James Boyd, UNLV defensive tackle Nate Holloway, Central Florida defensive end Toby Jackson, Houston wide receiver DeWayne Peace, Purdue wide receiver O.J. Ross and South Alabama defensive back Damond Smith.

Kadar has broken down each of the six players that may be chosen today HERE and has in depth reports on DeWayne Peace and O.J. Ross, linked below.

I think it's fairly unlikely the Seahawks will spend a 2014 Draft pick to select any of the eligible players, but you just never know. It's worth monitoring this morning, and one guy in particular that may get a look by Seattle if he's not chosen is DE James Boyd, a former Pete Carroll USC recruit. Says Rob Rang:

The 6-5, 255-pound Boyd offers intriguing size and athleticism. He signed with Southern Cal in 2009 as a highly regarded athlete out of Los Angeles, practicing with the team at quarterback, tight end and defensive end as a true freshman before appearing in two games (at DE) in 2010. He transferred to West Los Angeles City College but didn't play there in 2011 before signing with the Rebels, where he played in eight games (all at DE) in 2012 after initially practicing at quarterback.

Boyd boasts intriguing size and a quick first step -- which helped him record a combined 2.5 sacks in UNLV's first two games of September this season (Northern Arizona, Washington State) - but was largely shut down by opponents after this because he is so reliant upon his speed and finished with just 21 tackles and the 2.5 sacks on the year. He did not play in UNLV's final four games of the season.

Boyd didn't get along with Lane Kiffin, which led him to transfer leave USC, but it'd be interesting to see if Carroll has kept an eye on him since leaving in 2010.
