The extension means Baldwin will be a Seahawk through 2016.
Listen -- > Doug Baldwin New Contract Press Conference
John Schneider had a few comments on Baldwin that I thought were pretty interesting. Here are a few things that he pointed out or took note of:
-- In 2011, Baldwin led team in receptions as a rookie UDFA. This is obviously pretty impressive.
- Schneider noted that half of Baldwin's touchdowns were within two minutes of the end of the half, or within two minutes of the end of the game. He also said that 92% of Baldwin's 4th quarter catches were for first downs.
- JS said that Baldwin was #2 in NFL with 10.7 yards per target average in 2014.
-- Schneider checked off a few attributes that make Baldwin so effective: instant separation, getting off the line quickly and easily, being able to play inside or outside. Schneider noted that Baldwin has a strong ability to adjust to the ball in the air, catch the ball away from his body, and run after the catch.
- Schneider noted that Baldwin's two biggest games in 2014 came vs. two of the best defenses in the league - Carolina and San Francisco. He noted big catches in those games, and highlighted Baldwin's big kickoff return in NFC Championship game.
- Three plays that stood out to Schneider were: Doug's sideline catch vs. Panthers - clutch, clutch play in which Russell Wilson spun away from pressure and looked to be throwing it out of bounds; the Houston game, where Baldwin made a clutch sideline catch with a toe touch on 3rd down; and in the Super Bowl, he made a nice run after the catch, duck thing to get into the end zone. Schneider said this play epitomizes his effort and confidence in himself - he was going to score no matter what.
Baldwin also appeared on the Bob and Groz show shortly after to talk about his new deal. Listen in.
