Pete Carroll sees costly offensive penalties - Seattle Seahawks Blog - ESPN
“I don’t think they were wrong calls, just unusual,” Carroll said. “We’re just looking for consistency. The penalties were a big factor in the game. We got backed up three different times. I'm not saying it was the story of the game. I don’t think it was. We need to stay out of those situations. It shows how the littlest things can determine the outcome of a game like that one.”

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Week 14 DVOA Ratings
A close loss to another really good team certainly isn't enough to knock Seattle out of the top spot in the Football Outsiders DVOA ratings, and Seattle's lead over No. 2 Denver isn't much smaller than it was a week ago. Below that we see Carolina and New Orleans move closer together, although the Panthers are still No. 3; Kansas City, New England, and Cincinnati also move closer together as the three real threats to the Broncos in the AFC, as the Patriots drop a bit while the Chiefs and Bengals move up.

FOOTBALL OUTSIDERS: Innovative Statistics, Intelligent Analysis | Clutch Encounters: Week 14
This is the NFL's 94th season. Even if we ignore the era without stats (1920-31) or when players had to play on both sides of the ball (pre-1950), that's a lot of seasons and thousands of games in the books. Yet Sunday produced things we have never seen before, like a 64-yard field goal by Matt Prater in Denver or the most bizarre 34-20 snow game ever in Philadelphia. Some lateral-filled tomfoolery almost worked in Pittsburgh at the end of each half.

Seems as if Colin Kaepernick bites the hand ... - SFGate
Kaepernick has shown that side publicly on a few occasions, mostly to national media people in extended interviews. To the Bay Area media, he dials waaay back on the human interaction. A media session with him is like an ostensibly friendly ping-pong rally where easy, lob serves are returned with kill shots and menacing glares. When I attend a Kaepernick news conference now, it's no longer to glean information or insight, but more out of fascination, and that is wearing off. [...] as a starting quarterback, he is subjected to this interrogation-lite twice a week, by league rules, and he's likely to be a starter for a long time.
