Riley Cooper vs. Ray Lewis; Percy Harvin's injury impact; more thoughts | The MMQB with Peter King
THERE’S A REASON THEY TRADED FOR HIM. “The Seahawks offense averaged over 30 points a game the second half of last season. With their defense, how much is the loss of Percy Harvin really going to affect them? It’s silly to subtract something that was never added on the field in the first place. I think special teams will be affected more than the offense, especially after letting Leon Washington go. Your thoughts?” —William GM John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll thought the offense lacked explosiveness, which it did. Lots of what happened last year, particularly late in the season, was Russell Wilson getting comfortable with the offense and forming a bond with some good receivers. To take the next step, Schneider, especially, thought the offense needed a downfield weapon it didn’t have. I agree: Seattle will be very good without Harvin—maybe even a Super Bowl team. But he gives the offense a dimension few teams have.

A.J. Jenkins - yes, A.J. Jenkins! - had one of his best practices to date today, hauling in seven of the nine passes that went in his direction during 11-on-11 and team drills. Jenkins had a rough start to camp, and he spent last week nursing a hamstring injury. But he has had two solid outings in as many days and says he is intent on having a good game Thursday, too. Another Quarterback Aging Curve Post (Adjusted Net Yards Per Attempt Edition)
Back in March, Chase wrote a post investigating how quarterbacks age, finding that they peak at age 29 (with a generalized peak from 26-30) in terms of value over average. Today, I thought I’d quickly look at how quarterbacks age in terms of their performance rate — specifically, their Adjusted Net Yards per Attempt (ANY/A). For newer readers, ANY/A is based on the following formula: (Passing Yards + 20 * Passing TDs – 45 * INTs – Sack Yards Lost) / (Pass Attempts + Sacks).
