Silva's July Rankings, 1-100 - Goal Line Stand -
This is the first portion of my two-part Fantasy Football Rankings series for the month of July. During training camp, I'll put out regular Top 150s that react to injury information and significant depth chart movement. For now, the rankings are most influenced by talent and positional value. If you've read my rankings before, you know I bump down quarterbacks because they play the most replaceable position in fantasy. I place special value on non-quarterbacks I believe will be week-to-week difference makers in head-to-head fantasy matchups.

More on Nick Foles being 'overrated': National NFL writer gets exposed on WIP
Yesterday, we picked on CBS' Pete Prisco a little bit for his assertion that Nick Foles is "overrated." Prisco had published a column listing an overrated and underrated player on all 32 teams, and his 40-word blurb on Foles didn't exactly go into great detail. Other media outlets also jumped on Prisco's column, as WIP's Afternoon Show with Rob Ellis and Ray Didinger (filling in for Anthony Gargano) had Prisco as a guest on their show.

From an economic standpoint, every player in the NFL is worth what someone is willing to pay him. That doesn't mean particular players' performances live up to what their respective teams are willing to pay them, however.

Proposing The Optimal Contract Structure Technique - Over the Cap
In my last article I pointed out that the new type of contract structure that has emerged under the 2011 CBA possesses the advantage of allowing the teams that use it to trade dead money to other teams, rather than absorb such dead money onto their own salary cap. Today, I will propose a new contract structure that incorporates both this benefit and the advantages of the other common contract structure types, while avoiding the disadvantages of each.

Thoughts on the value of a rushing first down —
Last week, Brian Burke provided some excellent data on the value of a first down. I began working on today’s post last offseason, but as you’ll see in a few minutes, I wasn’t quite comfortable with the results. But here’s what I did.
