Per OverTheCap.com, the details of Michael Bennett's contract have come out. A few key details:
(1) His signing bonus was $8M, so over a 4 year contract, he has a nice easy pro-ration of $2M per year ($8M divided by 4 years = $2M pro-ration).
(2) His 2015 "guarantee" of $6M is guaranteed for injury only. The Seahawks can cut Bennett up to five days after the Super Bowl and they don't have to pay the base salary of $6M in 2015. The net savings of $2M in 2015 makes a cut in 2015 unlikely though, unless he really underperforms in 2014 (which I doubt we see).
So his contract looks like this:
2014
Signing Bonus - $8M
Base Salary - $2M
Cap Hit - $4M (Base Salary + Pro Ration)
2015
Base Salary - $6M
Cap Hit - $8M
Dead Money if Cut - $6M
Net Cap Savings if Cut - $2M (very unlikely Bennett gets cut in 2015)
2016
Base Salary - $4M
Roster Bonus - $1M
Cap Hit - $7M
Dead Money if Cut - $4M
Net Savings if Cut - $3M
2017
Base Salary - $6M
Roster Bonus - $1.5M
Cap Hit - $9.5M
Dead Money if Cut - $2M
Net Savings if Cut - $7.5M
Notice that the 2017 salary structure for Bennett looks a lot like the 2014 salary structure for Clemons (ages match up probably too) and it's unlikely Seahawks will pay Bennett this in 2017. He is likely gone by then, and Seahawks and Bennett probably both know this.
